Getting to PPL

Directions
PPL is located just south of Downtown Minneapolis. Franklin Avenue is a main artery running east-west from the Mississippi River to Hennepin Avenue.   The nearest north - south arteries are 5 -7 blocks west of 11th Avenue:   Park Avenue (one way north) and Portland Avenue (one way south). Chicago Avenue is another main north-south artery very near PPL, and an option if coming from downtown Minneapolis. But to the south, it is slow-going with major, long-term construction blocking lanes.

Coming from the south

Take I-35W N. Take the 31st Street EXIT, toward Lake Street . Stay straight to go onto 2nd Avenue South. Turn RIGHT onto Lake Street.   Turn LEFT onto Park Avenue. Turn RIGHT onto East Franklin Avenue, 5 blocks.

Coming from the north

Take I-94 E to EXIT 230 toward 4th Street North. Stay straight to go onto 4th Street North. Continue to follow 4th Street South. 4th Street South becomes MN-122 E. Take the I-35W S/HIAWATHA AVE/MN-55 S ramp (0.3 miles). Take the I-94 W ramp (0.1 miles). Take the 11 th Avenue ramp (0.1 miles). Turn LEFT onto 11 th Avenue South (0.2 miles).

Coming from the east

Take I-94 W to Cedar Avenue exit . Turn LEFT onto Cedar Ave. S. Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto Minnehaha Avenue.   Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto Cedar Avenue S. Turn RIGHT onto East Franklin Avenue for 0.6 miles.

Coming from the west

Take I-394 E to the 12 th Street N. EXIT (exit 9A). Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto 12 th Street North. Continue to follow 12 th Street SOUTH. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto East Grant Street. East Grant Street becomes South 4th Avenue. Turn LEFT onto East 15th Street. Turn RIGHT onto Portland Avenue South. Turn LEFT onto East Franklin Avenue for 0.4 miles.

From the Airport

Merge onto I-494 W . Merge onto MN-77 N/CEDAR AVE via EXIT 2B. Merge onto MN-62 W. Merge onto I-35W N toward MINNEAPOLIS. Take I-35W N to the 31st Street EXIT . Stay straight to go onto 2nd Avenue South. Turn RIGHT onto Lake Street.   Turn LEFT onto Park Avenue. Turn RIGHT onto East Franklin Avenue, 5 blocks.

Tips

In south Minneapolis, Streets run east-west and Avenues run north-south, This makes the name Franklin Avenue unique.   On the grid, it would be 20th street. Street numbers increase to the south. Avenue numbers increase to the east.

Franklin can be slow-going. Taking nearby one-ways may be a better alternative.   South of Franklin, the eastbound way is 28th Street . The westbound way is 26th Street.
