Education for Life

Job-training for People Living with HIV/AIDS

Education for Life (EFL) is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Human Services HIV/AIDS Division in partnership with PPL and the Minnesota Work Incentives Connection. The program is designed to provide employment-readiness support and training to HIV+ Minnesotans who are interested in entering or returning to work.

EFL is classroom training in a caring and confidential environment that offers HIV+ individuals the opportunity to explore returning to work. It is not designed to move people off of public benefits, but to allow students to gain valuable information about working and public healthcare benefits. EFL partners work with each student to review his or her public benefits and work income.

The training offered through EFL is different than typical vocational rehabilitation. EFL offers participants the chance to explore the psychosocial issues one might experience working, while HIV positive, and decide whether returning to work is the right path to take.
Curriculum also includes: assessing job skills, strengthening technology abilities, improving job searching, and exploring career change options.
