Train to Work

TTA

What is Train to Work?

Train to Work is a 2-4 week paid training program designed to help meet the staffing needs of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Childrens Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center, North Memorial Hospital, Educational Credit Management Corporation, Allina Commons (Allina’s corporate offices), Metropolitan Health Plan and U.S. Bank.  TTW Trainees are prepared for long-term success in the workplace through training in soft skills, computers, career development and job shadowing actual jobs.  For 12- 18 months after training TTW Retention Specialists help participants position themselves in jobs paying $10-$12 or more per hour, plus benefits.

(TTW Trainees are hired by PPL and paid to learn new career/employment skills.)

What kind of training is offered?

Train to Work offers classes in four broadly defined fields on an ongoing basis.  (Class start dates are determined by the staffing needs of TTW’s business partners.)  Each class includes soft skills and computer training and nearly all include job shadowing.  The classroom portion of the training gives trainees the skills necessary to write an effective resume, successfully search for jobs on the internet, and answer tough interview questions.  In addition it develops the skills such as effective workplace communication, professionalism and an appreciation of diversity; skills necessary to be an efficient and valuable employee.  The job shadowing portion of the training not only introduces trainees to work in a healthcare or financial setting but also creates an opportunity to connect with potential employers.
