Volunteers from RBC Dain Rauscher and Hands on Twin Cities worked with Early Wonders Preschool Director Sheila Walker to brighten the classroom with a fresh coat of paint. PPL’s Early Wonders provides all day, year-round preschool for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years. The painting project was organized as part of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service. This year, service projects have been promoted in Minnesota and across the nation on a new website encouraging Americans to volunteer in their communities (www.usaservice.org).

PPL relies on the expertise and skills of volunteers to help ensure that our programs and services meet the needs of our participants. In 2008, 1,076 volunteers contributed 50,481 hours of time, either throughout the year in consistent committee and program volunteering or through one-time group projects. These contributed hours are valued at $984,884.31 (calculated by the Independent Sector’s hourly rate of $19.51 per hour), and translate into almost 25 additional full-time equivalent “volunteer staff positions.”
