The Ready for School pilot project combines the strengths of PPL housing and self-sufficiency services with the expertise of PPL’s Early Wonders Preschool to improve school-readiness among children in our housing. Program components include the following:

The program is a good example of the unique and important services PPL can now offer due to its 2008 merger with Loring Nicollet–Bethlehem Community Centers.
Ready for School classes on-site at our housing locations, taught by child development experts from Early Wonders. Parents learn the value of early childhood education and parenting techniques that enhance their child’s school readiness skills.
PPL staff members provide parents with referrals to other appropriate early education resources. PPL provides transportation assistance to Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes. Interpreter service is also available for Spanish and Somali families.
Currently in one location, the program will expand to include three PPL housing sites by late spring. The pilot project also encourages a more dynamic relationship between PPL and ECFE, coming together to hold ECFE classes right onsite at PPL housing locations.
