From Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal, by Caleb Stevens:
The Van Cleve Apartments West redevelopment of the former Bunge grain silo is just as impressive as its 2008 Best in Real Estate award predecessor, the Van Cleve Apartments East, and in some ways more so.
The 50-unit Van Cleve Apartments West is the second rental building of the Van Cleve redevelopment project that is reintigrating the former Bunge grain silo into the community landscape. As the brainchild of a collaboration between Minneapolis organizations Project for Pride in Living (PPL), the Cabrini Partnership and UrbanWorks Architecture, the four-story Van Cleve West stands taller than its eastern counterpart and presented unique challenges in its development.
“It’s like an odd island in the middle of a neighborhood — how do you mend that?” UrbanWorks Managing Principal Noah Bly said. “We were focused on how we could preserve history and how to make it work for neighbors and tenants. It was uniquely successful in a uniquely challenging site.”
The 89,494-square-foot building is some 40,000 square feet larger than Van Cleve East, which sits closer to the rest of the neighborhood and nearby Van Cleve Park.
