Summertime Events Bring Residents & Neighbors Together

PPL residents in eight metro area neighborhoods hosted National Night Out parties this summer. “We had a great turnout and it inspired a lot of residents to ask if they can help out at future events” said Sarah Allen, PPL staff member in New Hope, who helped the residents organize. Other National Night Out events were held in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, and St. Louis Park.

Service coordinators work in all PPL rental properties, connecting with neighbors one-to-one and through organized workshops and events aimed at helping them stabilize both their families and communities. Other summer activities include:

  • Police Basketball Night in St. Louis Park. This is a weekly game with City police and neighborhood kids. Over 180 youth participated throughout the summer.
  • Creating a safer place to live, work, and play: residents of a PPL building in the Whittier neighborhood in Minneapolis began encouraging other neighbors to join them at community building meetings. PPL’s property managers, service coordinators and the local safe officer lent assistance in the outreach.
  • Resident meetings in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis led to the start of block clubs.
