Summer school at Loring Nicollet Alternative High School included “Project Fridays,” which involved students in painting a mural, weeding and harvesting a community garden plot, pick-up basketball games, and revamping the school website (www.lnas.org). Both students and staff enjoyed the hands-on projects that allowed explorative teaching and learning in refreshing ways.
This fall, two new teachers join MERC alternative high school: Anne Springfield for math and Sara Horne for English. Other changes include a new AmeriCorps worker for both alternative schools and PPL’s Self-Sufficiency Program will begin an after-school program to help students and their families work together to overcome barriers to success.
