A January 7, 2010 celebration marks the kick-off for building Hawthorne EcoVillage, a redevelopment of a four-block cluster in north Minneapolis, and the beginning of construction on the first of two homes slated for completion in 2010.
The Hawthorne EcoVillage is the result of a long-range, shared vision among Hawthorne neighborhood residents and leaders, community agencies and the City that addresses crime, poverty, rising foreclosure rates and vacant housing, unemployment, and overall resident health.
Plans use best practices in community based development, neighborhood revitalization, and sustainable green development which will create a model for more healthy, stable, and livable communities.
The goal for these first homes is to meet both Green Communities standards and achieve LEED certification, upon completion.
