Greetings from Executive Director Steve Cramer,
I’m always amazed at how quickly one year passes and another begins, and the transition at PPL from the “aught” decade to 2010 has been no exception. We are off to a flying start, as you will read below.

A quick thank you to all who voted through Facebook for “PPL Scholars” in the Clorox Bright Futures contest. Out of 5,000 nominations nationwide, Scholars was one of the top vote getters because of your support.

Housing Stability:
Hawthorne EcoVillage Groundbreaking
On a frigid afternoon work on the first new home in the Hawthorne EcoVillage commenced with a ceremonial placing of a welcome mat at the location of its future front door. More>

Economic Advancement:
Support for Green Jobs a boost to PPL’s work
PPL will have an opportunity to serve more people in our employment and training programs as a result of federal “stimulus” grants focused on digital literacy and “green” jobs. More>

Family Stability:
Family to Family Giving effort was a big success

Parents learn to advocate for strong beginnings
Parents and staff at Early Wonders preschool hosted an influential state senator for a pre-legislative session conversation about the importance of investment in early childhood programs. More>

Community Connections

Advocacy: PPL joins with US Census to reach under-counted populations in the community and takes part in other civic movements working to keep services available to those most in need. More>
