Highly Skilled Volunteers Raise the Bar, Test Scores, and Job Prospects for Participants

Thank you to these “Super Volunteers” for all of their hard work and dedication in their respective programs.

Sarah Santiago
Sarah spent a year as College House Tutor and then returned as a volunteer to help develop the program’s current literacy strategies.

Bill Cronin
“Bill’s impact has been great!” exclaimed a MERC staff member. “He has helped the majority of MERC students pass the Minnesota Basic Standards Test and has been a positive influence in their lives.”

Sue Toffanetti
Sue was a dependable, positive force in the time she volunteered at the PPL Computer Lab. Always looking to stay busy and assist wherever possible, she taught these dynamic qualities to participants as she gave them tips on professionalism and job searching.

Holly Thorstad
For six years, Holly volunteered as a tutor for elementary school-aged kids through the Homework ‘n’ Hoops program. She fostered continuity and consistency in the program and served as an excellent mentor, not just to students but to new tutors.

Al Barron
Al shared his great knowledge of professionalism and advanced job searching techniques as a volunteer and has since joined PPL as an employee. His enthusiasm for giving back proved contagious, as he’s recruited many former co-workers and provided a great base of professional, dedicated volunteers to PPL.

Amanda Cepeda
PPL partnered with Amanda and One Yoga to provide Self-Sufficiency Program residents with yoga classes for all ages. One participant noted, “Yoga class is one of the highlights of my week and Amanda does a great job of challenging and encouraging all of us.”

Robin McDougal
Robin is a strong asset to the Youth Development program. PPL has come to depend on her consistency and reliability.

Volunteers are needed for PPL Youth Development programs during the 2010-2011 school year. Information sessions detailing these programs are being held in June and August. Check out www.ppl-inc.org/volunteer for more information!
