Volunteers Lend ER Expertise

PPL’s Emergency Repair is a longstanding program that assists single parents, disabled adults, and senior citizens whose homes are in need of a repair that affects their safety or health. The program provides small grants to homeowners to alleviate the burdensome cost of repairs that they would otherwise be unable to afford. This allows these homeowners to remain in their homes and to live safely and with dignity.

This summer, PPL was faced with a project larger than the agency could afford. Thanks to the National Association of Minority Contractors-Upper Midwest (NAMC-UM), a homeowner got help on needed repairs, and was able to remain in their home. NAMC stepped up and supplied the resources and the volunteers to replace four windows.

NAMC-UM empowers the community of minority contractors in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa. It is a Chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors, a nonprofit trade association established in 1969 to address the needs and concerns of minority contractors.
