About Strong Beginnings
Strong Beginnings is a title given by Hennepin County to early childhood centers that incorporate necessary components of quality early childhood programs:
- Developmentally appropriate curriculum
- High quality learning environments
- Teachers knowledgeable in early childhood development
- Small class size and low teacher-to-child ratios
- Programming that engages parents as partners in their child’s development and education
- Sensitivity to the non-educational needs of the child and family.
Strong Beginnings Centers must:
- Be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children
- Have a family resource coordinator on staff
- Have a child development specialist on staff
- Maintain a 1:7 staff to child to for preschool age
- Employ teachers with degrees in education.
