As part of PPL’s mission to help people help themselves, PPL provides staff and participants with educational opportunities and tools for advocacy to help them voice their concerns to elected officials and the public. Throughout the year, we both advocate on PPL’s behalf and we strive to engage participants in the political process.
Recent highlights include:
January, 2010
Early Childhood Education For All
Minnesota State Sen. Linda Berglin, D-Minn., a longtime supporter of early childhood education, visited Early Wonders Preschool in January. Sen. Berglin met with PPL staff and parents to discuss how to increase opportunities for low-income families wishing to access quality early childhood education.
Early Wonders’ families know the importance of a good start in life for their children. Many benefit from scholarships in order to provide their children with quality early childhood education and want to help increase accessibility for everyone. In conversation with Sen. Berglin, they advocated for better accessibility to early childhood education.
Brad Linville, PPL’s Vice President of Education, said Sen. Berglin listened intently and offered insight to the group. She addressed the challenge in funding this cause, but encouraged parents to be more vocal at the grassroots political level and stressed the importance of voting. Sen. Berglin thanked Early Wonders’ families for their advocacy and together the group shared their hopes for the future.
