PPL’s Downtown View housing development is under construction!
Downtown View will provide housing to young adults, ages 18-24, who are experiencing homelessness. A new building attached to YouthLink’s headquarters and the Youth Opportunity Center, the project is a collaboration between YouthLink, who will be providing case management and other resident services, and PPL, who will own and manage the building. The development is just northwest of downtown Minneapolis – walking distance from lots of jobs, services (such as grocery stores) and bus and light rail stops. As the name suggests, it will have a great view of downtown! Building address: 41 12th Street North, Minneapolis.
The building will welcome its first residents in February 2018.
In addition to age requirements, applicants must be experiencing homelessness, and must be below certain income levels in order to qualify to live at this development.
Most of the units will be part of a “quad suite” – four residents, each with his or her own private bedroom, will share a living room, kitchen, and bathrooms. A few small studio apartments will also be available.
All 46 of the apartments will be supported by some form of rental subsidy. Residents will pay a percentage of their income (or a minimum of $75 per month) toward rent, and the rental subsidy source will pick up the rest. Rental subsidy is being provided by Hennepin County and by the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority through the project-based Section 8 program.
