Daniel Liborio-Acevedo enrolled at MERC Alternative High School as a junior with a clear goal in mind: to graduate. Through commitment and determination, he earned the required credits needed to successfully graduate this past June.
“When I learned I had the credits to graduate, I was super shocked,” Daniel says. “I was so excited to tell everybody.”
MERC provides students with a supportive learning environment, smaller class sizes and individualized support, while helping them build confidence and prepare for life after graduation. Throughout his time at the school, Daniel grew both personally and academically. A resourceful and diligent worker, he strengthened his problem-solving and teamwork skills and emerged as a positive role model within the MERC community. Daniel’s success inspired those around him, including his sister, whom he encouraged to graduate.
Daniel describes his journey as a rollercoaster of highs and lows. His perseverance is what helped him graduate and create new opportunities to continue learning and growing. This experience taught him the importance of staying focused, working through challenges and continuing to move toward his goals. Now, Daniel hopes his journey can encourage others to believe in themselves and see that their own goals are within reach.
“I was so proud of myself, that I could do that,” Daniel says. "If I did it, you can do it too.”
