State Housing Tax Credit

Turn Your Tax Dollars Into Homes and Opportunity

Maximize Your Impact: Direct Your Tax Credit to PPL

In 2022, the state passed an exciting and innovative new tool for affordable housing. The Minnesota State Housing Tax Credit (SHTC) program is a way for Minnesota individuals and businesses to finance affordable single and multifamily housing throughout the state, while receiving credit on their state taxes.

Update as of 2/17/26 at 5 PM:

Minnesota Housing has announced that the State Housing Tax Credit (SHTC) Contribution Fund is no longer accepting applications. Demand for 2026 credits exceeded available funds within hours of the program opening.
We are deeply grateful to the individuals and partners who moved quickly to invest in affordable housing through PPL projects.
Minnesota Housing will now review submitted applications and notify contributors directly regarding next steps.

Please note: Tax credit allocation is determined solely by Minnesota Housing and is subject to program capacity limits.

How It Works

Through the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency’s contribution program, you can contribute to one of PPL’s qualified housing development projects and receive an 85% state tax credit.

That’s 85 cents back on every dollar contributed.

Contributions from qualified individuals and businesses begin at $1,000 and are capped at $2 million.
