Keys in hand: T’Nina’s road to homeownership

T’Nina Westbrook

T’Nina always knew she was destined to own her own home. She frequently dreamed about the day when she could walk through the front door of a place that fully belonged to her. That dream became a reality in 2025, when after years of saving and searching, she officially signed the closing paperwork and received keys to her new home — a significant life milestone, and forever special memory for the proud, first-time homeowner.

“It was such a beautiful experience. As soon as I got the keys, I went with my parents to the house and walked through each room, just feeling all the feelings,” T’Nina reflects. “That was the moment I realized, ‘wow, I did this.’ I felt like I could finally breathe after years of holding my breath, waiting for this to happen.”

T’Nina’s homebuying journey was a long one.

“I felt like I was on a winding road that was never-ending,” T’Nina says.

After two years of navigating consistent bumps and barriers along the way, any doubts she started having about when her day would come dissolved after getting connected to Karen at PPL. Together they made a plan, and within three months T’Nina found and purchased her new home, achieving one of her top ambitions.

Today, T’Nina’s home is a warm, welcoming place where she frequently hosts family gatherings and carries on traditions for the next generation. She also views the milestone as a meaningful opportunity to build generational wealth, defining the term not only as a valuable financial asset, but a way to maintain her strong family connections and culture.

“When I look back, I’m most proud of the fact that I never gave up. There have been so many who helped guide my journey, and who contributed to my sense of hope,” T’Nina says. “It can be a challenging process, especially for people of color. But you have to keep on the path and trust the process.”
