(Minneapolis) – (December 7, 2023) - Project for Pride in Living is proud to announce that PPL is the beneficiary of an unprecedented, one-time contribution by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.  This contribution will allow PPL to make transformational investments in programs and operations.

“This contribution shows a resounding level of confidence in PPL’s mission and 10-year vision to create safe, resilient, and equitable communities across the Twin Cities,” said Paul Williams, President and CEO of PPL.

PPL plans to make several strategic investments, including accelerating equitable development; stabilizing PPL’s affordable housing residents and buildings; strengthening organizational operations; supporting talents and capabilities of staff; and leveraging opportunities for future growth and sustainability.

“PPL, as well as other affordable housing providers, continue to suffer regular losses to maintain properties and stabilize the quality of life for our residents,” Williams said.  “This contribution offers a brief respite to these ongoing financial headwinds and strengthen our ability to continue to build new homes into the future.”  Williams added, “Driving equitable development also means connecting resources to career readiness and asset building within our communities. We’re thrilled to be able to accelerate PPL’s approach with these investments.”

PPL was contacted by a third-party representative of Scott’s with an appeal for more information about the organization’s integrative model to address regional housing and workforce needs. PPL’s commitment to racial equity and community-centered practices were recognized as critical elements to creating impact for people and places served.

“This gift comes at a great time,” Williams said, “it’s no secret that it’s been challenging these past few years for our residents and other organizations. And the consequences of the ongoing pandemic will continue to affect us. We’re grateful for the support that will positively impact participants, residents, and students at PPL now and in the future.”
